Dr. Rainer Deutschmann

Rainer Deutschmann is a globally experienced C-suite executive with 25 years of senior leadership experience across telecommunications, IT & AI services, and FinTech. He is known for his ability to translate bold strategy into measurable business outcomes. He brings a rare combination of strategic foresight, entrepreneurial instinct, and operational rigour across both mature and high-growth markets, with a relentless focus on sustainable company value creation.  

Rainer has delivered lasting impact across multiple operating companies and regions spanning Europe and Asia. His track record includes transforming the Nordic & Baltic telecommunications leader back to growth, launching the world’s largest greenfield mobile network at Reliance Jio in India, and digitally transforming Dialog Axiata into Sri Lanka’s most valuable brand. 

Prior to Axiata, Rainer served as Group Chief Operating Officer at Telia Company, directly leading over 10.000 people, while also leading the group-wide transformation. Before, he was Group Chief Operating Officer at Dialog Axiata, leading its businesses and digital transformation, and Chief Product & Innovation Officer at Reliance Jio in India, launching what is now the world’s largest data network. Earlier in his career, he held senior executive leadership positions at Deutsche Telekom AG, T-Mobile International AG, and McKinsey & Company. Besides organic value creation, Rainer has originated and executed multiple M&A and portfolio transactions. He has also served as Non-Executive Director at Rain Ltd., South Africa’s digital telco, as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Deutsche Telekom UK Ltd., and as Senior Advisor to Bain and McKinsey & Company.
