Kuala Lumpur, 18 June 2013 - Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) continued to gain momentum in the industry, taking top honours at the Frost & Sullivan's 2013 Asia Pacific ICT Award. Axiata won the Best Telecom Group of the Year, for the 5th consecutive year. This prestigious award is granted to the operator with a presence in at least 4 Asia Pacific markets that has shown exemplary growth and performance in 2012 in Asia Pacific through its investments in the region. Axiata Group also took home three awards in total with Celcom winning the ‘Wireless Data Services Provider of the Year' and Robi was voted ‘Best Emerging Market Service Provider of the Year'. Both awards represented second wins for the companies.

To qualify for the Telecom Group of the Year category companies were studied on their growth and performance in 2012 in Asia Pacific through its investments in the region. Contenders were evaluated based on revenues, Group EBITDA margin, subscriber growth and strength of regional footprint as well as valuation improvement. Axiata has seen tremendous growth in all financial metrics in the last five years. Since the demerger, from 2007 to 2012, revenue has grown 77%, PAT more than doubled and subscriber base grown by more than 5 times. Similarly, Axiata's market capitalization has nearly doubled in value up 98% from its IPO in April 2008 to 2012.

Dato' Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Axiata said “We are greatly honoured by the awards and would like to thank Frost & Sullivan for the recognition. The award reflects the great team that we have with us and is really a collective victory to be fully shared with all our employees across the group. It has been a tremendous five years for Axiata and this award is testament to that.”

Serene Chan, Senior Industry Analyst, Asia Pacific ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan said, “In calendar year (CY) 2012, Axiata has outperformed its regional peers across a number of financial and operational metrics. Proportional revenue increased by 11.1% year-on-year to reach US$6.0 billion in CY2012. It registered 10.5% year-on-year growth rate in its subscriber base as it served over 200 million subscribers in the region by the end of CY2012.

Axiata's commendable performance has been attributable to the competitiveness of its subsidiaries and associates. In particular, the effectiveness of their marketing and pricing strategies has been reflected in the strong revenue and subscriber growth rates of Robi, Dialog and XL.

Axiata continues to enhance shareholder value with an EBITDA margin of 38.3%, the highest among telecom groups in the Asia Pacific region. At the same time, effective cost management has never been at the expense of continuous development. The management's strategic vision has been reflected through their infrastructural development where 21.7% of the group's revenue had been channeled towards capital expenditure in CY2012”.

“The awards are an acknowledgement of the continued success of our operating companies in the region as well as an acknowledgement of the Group's progress towards its regional ambitions, just 5 years since becoming a stand-alone company. I am very happy to see Celcom and Robi being recognized and I would like to congratulate all Celcom and Robi employees. A special mention must be made in particular to Dato' Sri Shazalli Ramly and Michael Kuehner, for their very able leadership” Dato' Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim concluded.
