What is the Axiata Young Talent Programme?

The Axiata Young Talent Programme sponsors young Malaysians at three entry levels:

1. National Secondary School Programme

2. International Baccalaureate Pre-University Programme

3. Undergraduate Degree Programme

The Axiata Young Talent Programme is more than just a scholarship. It is a holistic development programme blending educational excellence with extra-curricular programmes to develop future world-class corporate leaders. Admission to the Axiata Young Talent Programme will equip individuals with a well-rounded education both in and out of the classroom. This is achieved through academic support and participation in the Ax-Factor curriculum which nurtures individuals in areas of attitude, leadership, critical thinking, communication and creativity.

How is the Axiata Young Talent Programme different?

Unlike traditional scholarships that focus only on academics, the Axiata Young Talent Programme complements classroom education with the Ax-Factor curriculum that aspires to nurture individuals into wholesome individuals.

Who can apply?

Axiata Foundation welcomes applications from Malaysian citizens or permanent residents of Malaysia only. Axiata employees and their direct family members are not eligible to apply. Please refer to the specified criteria for each programme for further details.

How can I apply?

Applications for all Programmes have to be submitted online. Any information provided will have to be verified with the corresponding certified document(s) at a later stage. Please note that manual submissions will not be accepted.

What is the application process?

The application process involves the online application followed by two subsequent evaluations before candidates are offered acceptance into the Programme. Please note that only successful candidates will be invited to the second and final stages. For further details please go to (www.axiata.com/axiata-ytp/soe) or the relevant sections.

How many sections are there in the online application?

The candidate will be required to complete all sections of the online application; this will take approximately 45 minutes:

What do I need to bring to the Axiata assessments if invited?

Successful candidates will be required to bring:

• Stationery
• Identification card (if applicable), or birth certificate
• Certified copies of academic and school leaving certificates
• Parents/guardians income statements(BE/B Forms certified by the Commissioner of Oath)
• Two copies of a recent passport photo

When will assessments and interviews happen?

How will shortlisted candidates be contacted for further assessment?

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Axiata Foundation via phone and/or email. Please note that only successful candidates are contacted and invited to proceed to the second and final stages.

How will I know if I have been accepted into the Programme I applied for?

Candidates who have been successfully accepted into the Programme they have applied for will be contacted by Axiata Foundation.

How long do I have to accept the offer into the Programme I applied for?

Candidates have approximately ten days to accept an offer into the Programme they applied for from the time of issue.

What are the minimum requirements to be eligible for the National Secondary School Programme?

• The applicant must be a Malaysian citizen or a Malaysian permanent resident
• The applicant must achieve a minimum of 5 As in the recent Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) trial examinations
• The applicant must consistently be a top ten student in Standard 4, 5 and 6 of his/her Primary School education
• The applicant must display an active participation in sports, clubs and societies, and/or the performing arts
• The applicant must be proficient in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, and any other spoken and written languages are favourable
• Priority is given to students from low income and rural families

Will I still be eligible for the National Secondary School Programme if I get less than 5A's in the actual UPSR examinations?

Yes, but priority will be given to candidates with 5A's in their UPSR examinations

Which secondary school and course will I be enrolled in?

What is the scholarship tenure?

The scholarship is for the duration of 5 years (Form 1 – Form 5) provided students continue to perform well academically in school and participate actively in school extra-curricular activities.

Does admission into the National Secondary School Programme mean admission into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Pre-University Programme too?

No, admission into the National Secondary School Programme does not guarantee a place in the International Baccalaureate Pre-University Programme. However, scholars are encouraged to apply for the Programme.

Is consent needed from a parent, guardian or teacher when applying?

Yes, consent from a parent, guardian or teacher is required when applying for the National Secondary School Programme via the online application. It is advised that a parent, guardian or teacher familiarises themselves with the Programme and aids the applicant throughout the online application.

What are the minimum requirements to be eligible for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Pre-University Programme?

• The offer is subject to terms and conditions in relation to the student's performance in academic and extra-curricular activities. Successful candidates will be required to attend to further assessment and interviews

Do I need referees or a reference letter to apply? How many are needed?

For the online application, two referees are needed who are unrelated to the applicant. Candidates will need to provide contact, relationship and employment information of the referees.

A reference letter is not needed for the online application; however, reference letters from the referees may be required at a later stage if candidates are invited to the subsequent stages.

What Pre-University course will I be enrolled in?

All scholars will be enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme at the International School of Penang (Uplands). For more information about Uplands, please visit the following website www.uplands.org.

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a two year course in which students undertake six subjects in different areas to obtain a well rounded education. For more information pertaining to the curriculum, please visit www.ibo.org.

What are the prerequisites for the International Baccalaureate course?

There are no prerequisites to undertake the International Baccalaureate course; however, there is a particular course structure and core assessments that has to be followed once enrolled. In addition, it is advised that candidates choose subjects that are complimentary or are prerequisites to their undergraduate degree if they would like to advance into the Undergraduate Degree Programme.

Will Axiata provide a monthly allowance for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Pre-University Programme scholars?

Axiata Foundation will provide a monthly allowance for their IB scholars. However, scholars are expected to manage their own funds independently and any additional expenses are to be borne by the individual.

Does admission into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Pre-University Programme guarantee admission into the Undergraduate Degree Programme too?

Axiata Foundation will continue to sponsor scholars from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Pre-University Programme into the Undergraduate Degree Programme provided they meet the following requirements,

• The applicant must have a conditional or unconditional offer from our preferred list of universities and courses.
• The applicant must have achieved at least 4 As in STPM, and a forecasted result of ABB in A Levels, 36 points in IB, 99% TER for South Australian Matriculation, a minimum 3.7 GPA for American Degree Programme or a 98% in International Canadian Pre-University
• The applicant must be proficient in English, and any other spoken and written languages are favourable
• The applicant must consistently display active participation in sports, clubs and societies, and/ or the performing arts
• The offer is subject to terms and conditions in relation to the student's performance in academic and extra-curricular activities. Successful candidates will be required to attend further assessment and interviews

What if I have an offer for one of the courses listed from a different university?

Candidates that have an offer, conditional or otherwise, from a different university other than the universities listed will not be accepted. Similarly, if you have applied for a different course at one of the listed universities, your application will not be processed. Will Axiata provide a monthly allowance for the Undergraduate Degree Programme scholars?

Axiata Foundation will provide a monthly allowance for their Undergraduate Degree Programme scholars. However, scholars are expected to manage their own funds independently and any additional expenses are to be borne by the individual.

Are there restrictions to the number of times I can return to Malaysia?

Axiata Foundation does not restrict the number of home visits to Malaysia. However, Axiata Foundation will only sponsor one return ticket per student for the duration of their Programme. Candidates should be aware that Axiata Foundation requires mandatory attendance at for the Ax-Factor programmes and initiatives during the term breaks.

Is there a requirement to join Axiata at the conclusion of my academic studies?

Upon completion of the Undergraduate Degree Programme, all scholars are required to join the organisation, or one of its operating companies, for a duration of two years for every one academic year sponsored. Scholars are entitled to a position as long as they fulfil the minimum grade requirement at the conclusion of their academic studies.



Ax-Factor

How often will the Ax-Factor programmes run?

Is it compulsory for scholars to participate in all initiatives organised by Axiata Foundation?

Yes, participation in all programmes and expeditions organised by Axiata Foundation under the Ax-Factor is compulsory.

What if there is an emergency of if I am ill, can I be exempted from the Ax-Factor programme?

Yes but Axiata Foundation requires documented proof, i.e. a medical certificate.
